The Ghost Of Management Past

Few people aspire to the management style of Ebenezer Scrooge, although most people can think of someone who has shown a few slightly similar traits. 

Some managers are mean spirited, some are ill-mannered, some show a lack of consideration for others, some seem so focused on the figures they don’t notice that they have people in their teams.   Most are good, with a few behaviours which are holding them back, or making it difficult for them to achieve everything they want to with the good will of those around them.

Ebenezer may have had a terrible track record, but he did reconsider his ways and enjoy a more positive future.  Undigested cheese may have done the trick for him, but it wasn’t an enjoyable experience.

Recognising your own blind spots is hard work.  Without honest and objective feedback provided in a constructive and supportive way people can’t change because they don’t know what to change, how to change it, and what they should be doing differently. 

Providing a safe and supportive environment for giving and receiving objective, behaviourally (rather than personally) focussed feedback around agreed objectives can make a hugely positive difference to managers, whether they’re doing a good job, on the fast track to future success, or in need of some support in meeting their objectives.
