Taking organisations, teams, individuals and customers to new places
The reactive (and necessary) tasks of management are well
covered in most organisations. Within those organisations many
people have developed highly evolved coping strategies for
dealing with the day-to-day pressures and workload. Few of
those people are pro-actively engaged in defining, creating,
or implementing the kind of strategies that will not only
deliver the today, but also deliver the tomorrow. It’s a poor
excuse to be too busy to become a better organisation. The
catalyst for this new way of thinking (paradigm) is
Leadership.

Leadership is about the taking of people, whether that’s large
or small numbers (it might mean just yourself!), and
customers, markets and products to new places. With this
pro-active, highly accountable, change orientated mind-set organisations can take greater control of their external and
internal environments.
However, many organisations struggle to create this
constituency of leaders. Why is this? They focus on it being:
- A seniority thing (just for Directors),
- A training thing, without examining the cultural context,
- An exhortation thing, by motivating (telling?) managers (not
the wider population), to lead more, that they will. In our
experience, they don’t, they simply give their superiors all
the reasons why they can’t lead more, creating a dialogue of
the deaf.
