Developing New Ways Of Organising
Organisations often have two major blind spots when it comes
to their Structures. They will either:
- have a highly ‘evolved’ organogram that answers the
needs of yesterday, rather than the needs of today or
tomorrow. Often this is characterised by having many
compensating factors, exceptions, precedents, unclear lines
of sight etc. built in. This organisation works as much in
spite of its structures as because of them
OR
- have a blind spot which is almost the direct opposite.
They will feel that their problems can be answered by
changing the structure. Changing structures can be very
seductive, new diagrams, lots of ‘apparent change’ but 6
months later the same problems are still there.
